Featured here is a Powers Irish Whiskey jug made by Arklow in the 1980s/90s. Arklow produced two variations of this jug – one with a handle, showcased here, and another without a handle, displayed at this link.
Powers is a well-known Irish whiskey brand produced by the Irish Distillers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. Initially a single pot still whiskey, Powers Gold Label was the first Irish whiskey to be bottled. It is one of the best-selling whiskeys in Ireland.
Powers is credited with the innovation of the miniature whiskey bottle commonly found in mini-bars and on air-plane drink carts. Known as “The Baby Power”, it was designed with a small corkscrew and cork. This compact size made it convenient to carry in a coat pocket.
