This is one of two different moulds of water jugs made for Corcoran’s Mineral Waters by Arklow Pottery. The Arklow stamp on the base indicates that this jug dates from the 1950s or 60s. You can view the other, newer version of this jug in our collection at this link.
Corcoran’s Mineral Water Carlow was established in 1827 by Thomas Corcoran. The company used natural water from a well beside Carlow Castle. Their products received many awards, including recognition at the International Exhibition in Dublin in 1907.
Corcoran’s produced a range of beverages, such as Castle Lemonade, Castle Cola, and Carlo Orange. For generations, the manufacturing and bottling of soft drinks and mineral water was a thriving industry in Carlow. While red lemonade is a uniquely Irish beverage, Corcoran’s brown lemonade was even more distinctive.
